PoV: Brink impressions

Bethesda Softworks released Brink today on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, and after a few hours with the game I can give my early impressions.

The setting of Brink is a breath of fresh air in a market flooded with bland, brown hued war shooters. Brink takes place on The Ark, a city that floats above the endless ocean. There are two warring factions that fight for control of The Ark, and players are able to take control of either side in the variety of game modes.

Brink is very similar to Battlefield in its dependence upon team based, strategic gameplay. At any point during a mission or multiplayer mode, players can choose to defend their factions control point or try and capture the opposing team's control point. I'll admit it isn't as deep as a Battlefield title, but it's still very fun.

Brink is a pretty standard shooter as far as gameplay mechanics go, but it does feature the intuitive "SMART" mechanic. This allows players to simply aim at the other side of a chasm, and they characters will run, jump, or climb to the other side. This can be used to get by tons of different obstacles, including pits and alarm systems.

I'm enjoying my time with Brink so far, but I have noticed quite a few bugs and lack of polish in the overall presentation of the game. Expect a full review on QJ in the coming days.

Kinda the point. They wanted to make a game where you could transition between single and multiplayer gameplay without changing up your play style too much. All shooters just use their campaign modes to 'train' you in gameplay/map basics so you don't get completely ruined online.

Just how it is. It is extremely better when games offer ass-kickingly exciting/fun campaigns though.

Right, so Halo:CE, Bulletstorm, Half-life, Portal, and FEAR do that... if multi-player is all games were I would be sad.

WHAT ARE THE GAMEMODES AND IS THERE HARDCORE FOR HARDCORES LIKE ME? I do love pumpin ppl full of bullets though if there isn't.

This game looks amazing.
I never judge a game on another title though not my style. Each game is different and to me can only be graded on itself and not compared to other games.

Brink in my eyes is an amazing game. All games have bugs no game is perfect.

after playing the demo, i am interested in what this game has to offer the fps genre.
