PoV: Will Satoru Iwata be fired?

A recent rumor suggests that Satoru Iwata is on the hot seat. What are the chances that he'll actually be fired?

The rumors originated from 01net, the same site that leaked information about PS Vita, Wii U, and several other gaming systems and games.

"If we are to believe our source, the chairman of the board, Satoru Iwata, is now in very delicate position, if not on an ejection seat. Iwata is generally appreciated by the staff of the company, many employees worried about his fate," 01net said. "Also according to our source, the fact that he publicly assumed responsibility for a difficult start to the 3DS and voluntarily cut his salary in half may not be enough to save his place in the medium term."

Can this actually be possible? Not a chance.

Satoru Iwata is one of the strongest figures in the gaming world, and he was one of the main factors behind the Wii and DS, which quite literally set the gaming world on fire.

It's true that Nintendo 3DS started off slowly -- and some of that is on Iwata -- but now the system is picking up steam with the recent price cut. You also have to realize that it only takes the Big N roughly $100 to produce a 3DS unit, so they're still making quite a bit of profit.

If you remember correctly, the original DS had some problems in its first year before it started to sell like hot cakes. I don't think 3DS will be as successful, but it's incredibly ignorant and short sighted to write off a system this early into its life.

Nintendo would be making a huge mistake if they fire him and let him go. Sony & Microsoft will most likely offer a arm and a leg to get his knowledge. So I don't see him being fired from Nintendo just because the 3DS is doing bad. Like said in the post, "The DS did bad when it was released it took them a while before it started selling big time." Its just bad business

Ok, this is getting ridiculous!
The 3DS is not 1-year old yet. Its not a failure! Super Mario 3d and Mario Kart 7 is still not out...they will sell like hotcakes! These alone will be their 'evergreen' software selling for 20 million copies each. Nintendo knows what their doing.

I believe the same thing will happen to PS Vita. Slow sales due to the price and not enough AAA games then after 1 or 2 years it will pick up steam after redesigns and price cuts and AAA games.

The world is still pretty unscorched last time I checked.

Literally set the gaming world on fire. I think you can do that with a conceptual, socio-economic world.

Oh yes, iwata sat back after the surprisingly successful wii launch and raked in profits while on vacation. miyamoto made a crappy music game, and third party development took care of the shovelware supply.

I dunno if they need to fire him but Nintendo does need to take a whole new direction when they release Wii U, or not exactly a new direction but just take a 180 a take a similar direction to before Wii and DS were released, because they been raking in so much money from those 2 they just got lazy and being doing almost no quality original first party titles, and because no one knows if Wii U will do well and 3DS is slightly struggling they gonna have to concentrate on Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc. to show what they can do to sell consoles.
