PoV: There are way too many legendary Pokemon |

Earlier today, Pokemon director Junichi Masuda said that there aren't too many legendary Pokemon in the series. He couldn't be more wrong.
"Maybe there are a lot of Legendary Pokémon across the entire series, but then if you are just looking at each title, there are not many in each," Masuda said. "It is very interesting having the number of Legendary Pokémon that we do - in the Pokémon World Championship in 2010, there was a battle among only Legendary Pokémon, and that kind of thing can happen if we have many Legendary, so it's fun."
The first Pokemon games, Red and Blue (and even Yellow, for that matter) had the perfect number of legendary Pokemon. There were the three legendary birds -- Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno -- and then the ultimate legendary, Mewtwo. Mew was also catchable through a glitch, but it was never legitimately available.
Gold, Silver, and Crystal had a good balance as well, with the three legendary dogs (Entai, Raikou, and Suicune) and then two legendary bird Pokemon: Hoho and Lugia. Players were also able to catch Mewtwo in those two games when they return to Kanto, and Celebi was the most desired legendary in the games.
Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald versions didn't have enough legendary Pokemon that were actually good. There were the mediocre Groudon and Kyogre, and then Rayquaza, which was an excellent legendary. But then Nintendo got somewhat legendary happy, and added a trio of new legendaries in the third generation: Regice, Registeel, and Regirock. To top it off, there were two new legendary birds, a new psychic type called Jirachi, and then four forms of Deoxys.
It got even worse in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum versions. There was a new trio -- Azelf, Mesprit, and Uxie -- a three dragon type legendaries, a "lunar duo" of legendaries, two sea guardian legendaries, and then Heatran, Regigigas, Shaymin, and Arceus. That's 13 total legendary Pokemon in one game.
13 more legendary Pokemon were added in Black and White. There's Vicinti, the "musketeer trio," Kami trio, Tao trio, Meloetta, and Genesect.
That brings the total number of legendary Pokemon to 47. What alternate reality is Masuda living in?

That would be like saying there are way too many baseball cards in circulation. Um...no there isn't.

there is a reason all the old ones (pre 70's) are worth more, and that is because a lot of them got thrown out by mothers cleaning their kids' rooms. a good chunk more were treated like toys and used for all sorts of things.
it wasn't until the 80s & 90s when people started to collect them more widely as a serious hobby, and the manufacturers saw more demand, so they printed a lot more of the same sets.
the only problem? economics 101 - supply vs. demand. you won't get a good value unless the card is in perfect mint condition.
the same thing happened to comic books too.

I bought a few sets in the late 80's and I have more then a few cards worth over $100.

i agree with the 3 way battles being way to much though. also i found the pokemon in B&W to be horribly mediocre compared to previous generations.

But I'm completely dumb founded when it comes to 4th and 5th generation.
I would like to see a remake of Pokemon Emerald. But make is start of like Pokemon Blue/Red/Yellow... Advance to the Ju-On region (I think that's the second series start? anyone can correct me on that one if I'm wrong please.)and start the adventure there. Than go on to the next region w/e that is and leave it like that. Make is similar to the cartoon series and not a separate series of it self.

As for the legendaries...I found this post by googling 'too many legendaries' after going through the list of gen three new additions. I'm twenty four by the way, but with an emulator it makes an entertaining way to while time occasionally. Or it did - the whole thing appears to be complicating itself in ultimately unpleasant ways... I may quit after gen 4. But anyway, I was looking at the list, and thinking: there's nearly two whole teams of legendaries here! And most of them aren't even that great! What the heck! That just undermines the entire 'legendary' status in the first place. I think the argument about individual titles is largely irrelevant - remember they made improved remakes of the originals, most players will cover all titles, and not worrying that after three the very term legendary is starting to seem downright humdrum is stupid. Their designs haven't improved either.
In short, Oi.

Here are the legendaries I would keep if I was in charge, the others I would tell all Pokemon fans were actually experiments that went horribly wrong (like Mewtwo...but he's ok...) and that the remaining legendaries all died.
KEEPERS:
Generation 1 - All of them
Generation 2 - All of them
Generation 3 - Weather Trio, Deoxys
Generation 4 - Dragon Trio, Manaphy, Darkrai/Creslia, Shaymin
Generation 5 - Dragon Trio, Genesect
That would bring the legendaries to a total of 26 rather than the ridiculous 47.
All the other pokemon would be killed off. I would tell everyone they never existed. Then I would always have a rule the MOST you could possibly introduce in new gens would be 6, no more...
Oh yeah, and you should ONLY be allowed 1 legendary Pokemon in ANY type of battle

In gym battles, you can only use the same number of Pokemon the gym leader does. The battle start reguarly, with the first guy in your lineup being thrown out. But after that you have to chose your remainging Pokemon to use. Would make the game more difficult and fun. ALSO should make legednaries PHENOMINALLLY difficult to catch. I'm talking so hard, that you would be lucky to have 3. But game freak would also have to not allow any more action replay to get rid of the cheaters.
