PoV: eShop delay is a bummer |
Listed in: Nintendo 3DS Tags: eshop, Nintendo, Virtual Console

Early this morning Nintendo announced that the 3DS eShop, a service that allows users to download Virtual Console, 3DSWare, and 3D Classic games, has been delayed to the night of June 6, 2011. The eShop was originally supposed to release this month, and this delay is a total bummer.
At first glance it can be assumed that Nintendo is delaying the eShop to add better security after the ongoing PSN debacle. I'm sure that isn't the case, though -- Nintendo's E3 press conference is on June 7, 2011. The eShop is going live in North America on the night of June 6, just one day before their conference. Nintendo is obviously using this delay to make a big deal about the eShop during their conference.
I was really looking forward to the eShop releasing this month. Not just because of the lack of games early in the 3DS life cycle (until June, of course), but because I would be able to finally play tons of DSiWare games I missed out on, along with all the Virtual Console games I was getting ready to download for sentimental purposes.
Hopefully Nintendo does something awesome with this delay, but I doubt that will be the case. Some more free content or more Virtual Console games available on day one would be fantastic.
