PoV: 3DS NES ambassador games are lacking

I know they're free, but the Nintendo 3DS NES ambassador games are severely lacking.

The best game available is The Legend of Zelda, but it's already in so many different forms that the download is essentially pointless. I own the original Zelda on NES, GBA, GameCube, Wii, and now 3DS.

Metroid is so rough around the edges that it's better to find a copy of Zero Mission -- its GBA remake -- instead of even downloading this free NES version. Zelda II: The Adventure of Link is also iffy.

The rest of the games, sans Super Mario Bros, are some of the more less than desirable titles on NES. Open Tournament Golf, Yoshi, Balloon Fight, Ice Climbers, etc -- why did Nintendo offer these instead of gems like StarTropics?

firedragon_jing , they are supposed to be giving away things that would entice people to buy a console. Stating how something isn't enticing isn't "bitching." Perhaps more people would have bought a 3DS if they were giving out better games. Your "shut up and just enjoy it" attitude is what makes big companies continue to get away with selling half-finished crap.

Agreed 100%.
They were trying to sell the handheld by adding incentives.
However these just aren't quality enough to sell it.
As someone further down in the comments said, it would have been better that they had given eshop credit.

@firedragon_jin g, they could have given nothing, but then their sales would have stayed lower than what they wanted.
I think it might stay that way with poor incentives like these though.

No, they aren't. This program is for PAST sales. It has nothing to do with new sales. But you knew that right? You actually know what you are talking about right?

True, they could have not given anything free away, but then there'd be a lot more pissed off customers. I feel kind of shafted either way. My thoughts are that most early adopters are going to be core Nintendo users who most likely will already own the good games they are giving away for free. They should have chosen other titles that have been less distributed for sure.

Really? What'd you expect? I mean seriously it's not like they can put a lot of awesome games on there and as well those are probably the only ones they have actually programmed for the 3ds. I'm sure you'll change your tune when the GBA games come out or are you gonna have the same nonsensical views that you have here (We's can already plays that on so many other thingsis.)

Yeah let's just act like you know what you're talking about..... Actually they have do have to program them individually because they can't (mostly won't) make a blanket application like an emulator for that system.

That was my main gripe as well. I really wish that they would have gone in and tweaked these titles to accommodate the widescreen.

In any of these freebies. Stuff that I've seen or played a zillion times before. These are zero cost to Nintendo.

I agree with the article. They could have offered 2-3 quality games instead of 20 crapware. Sure these games were great at one point but they won't do anymore. Just my opinion.

The other reason this program fails is that all the games are 1st party games and no 3rd party. Some of those games aren't all that good.

Since the 3DS ambassador systems had a $80 price premium, they could have PAID for the rights to distribute better games. The "free" NES games are almost all shitty launch titles.

In my opinion they should have converted all of them into 3d classics.Its cool to play retro games but when you add 3d its like playing a slightly newer version, just like when HD is added for ps3 or 360 versions etc...

the nes games were all retarded and none of them were good. we should have had the mario games and punch out included at least. giving us zeldas and mario 1 were bad but theyre popular titles. we needed better titles.
