VS: iPhone 5 is Exactly What it Should Be |
Listed in: iPhone Tags: apple, ios, iphone 4, iphone 4s, iphone 5
Look, I know QJ isn’t exactly the best place to come out in favor of Apple. In fact, the only better way to rile the QJ reader base is by firing off a quick insult at Sony (like this: Vita sucks!). But I’m not here to start a flame war—I’m just here to share a quick opinion.
Last week and without much fanfare, Apple unveiled its new iPhone 5 smartphone. And the overwhelming response from the media has been, “So?” After all, despite the upgraded OS, stronger internal parts and more efficient design, the phone just looks like another iPhone—there’s really no stunning reveal to be made.

But you see, my beloved cynical Internet, that’s exactly the point. When you’ve pushed a design to the point of near-perfection, there aren’t many ways to improve it without straying dramatically from the original concept. The iPhone has a very specific set of functions and features, and we’ve hit a point where the only way Apple can really innovate is in small changes to the existing device or releasing a new device entirely.
Let’s look at how Apple absolutely nailed it with iPhone 5:

First, there’s the price—right in line with the 4S. No hike for new features, so that’s a win. Second, there’s the minor benefits of having a lighter device with a larger screen—not huge, but still a win in the mobile space where screen real estate is key. Most important, however, is the new A6 processor that runs twice as fast as the A5, making this is fastest iPhone to date (duh). App loading and switching speeds is a huge factor for major multi-taskers.
Then we look at the other good stuff:
- 4G LTE support
- 150Mbps Wi-Fi connectivity
- GLONASS support and a digital compass
- Faster camera with geotagging
- 1080p 30 fps video recording
- HD Facetime (720p)
- Killer battery life—8 hours of web browsing on LTE/40 hours audio playback
Look, I know there are other phones out there that do this stuff. I’m not saying that the iPhone 5 is the best phone on the market, or that it’s the greatest invention of our time. All I’m saying is that it’s a noticeable and exceptional upgrade from the 4 and 4S, and iPhone fans would be making a good call by retiring their old device and bumping up to the new one.
But hey, that’s just my two cents.

I don't see how it could be any less win, to claim the design is near-perfection is laughable considering its struggling to catch up to the competition now. There are Android phones just as thin as the 5 iPhone 5 with 20+ hours of battery life, 8 hours is standard, not "killer".

The same can be said about Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. Just tell the fanboys to go fuck themselves.
"And the overwhelming response from the media has been, “So?”"
No it hasn't. The response has been pretty stellar as proven by the sales numbers.
LTE, the much faster camera and the improved screen (not talking size) is exactly why I'm upgrading from an iPhone4 to the iPhone5. Well, that and the fact that I can sell my old one for $220 so...it's pretty much a free upgrade. Gotta keep that investment rolling.
btw, the iPhone has always had geotagging.

Um...no you don't. All you do is pay for service. You have to have service anyway to use the phone. So if you're going to have cell phone service for 2 years anyway, then getting the phone at 67% off is pretty damn good.

Use an S3 for a couple days and then use your iPhone. You will
hate it, that's what happens to me. Screen size makes everything
better: web browsing, watching videos, looking at photos, playing games.. I laughed at my friend when he told me he was buying an S3, thinking the iPhone was god, well he proved me wrong BIG time!!

And the way Apple force you to update your hardware with every firmware also sucks.
Look at IOS6. The iPhone 4 cant run any of the new features so if you have an iPhone 4 and upgrade to IOS6 you are losing more features than gaining so its actually a downgrade.
And the way the iPhone is so locked up and not friendly, where Android is so friendly its not funny. I can easily make anything a ringtone or share a photo with anyone in seconds where with the iPhone its just about impossible to do half the stuff Android does by default.

The battery IS replaceable. All you do is remove two screws and bam, replace the battery. Been that way for 2 years now.
Yeah, no card slot.
iTunes hasn't been a requirement since iOS5. You don't need iTunes.
"Use an S3 for a couple days and then use your iPhone. You will
hate it"
Been there. I have access to just about every phone as a demo phone on Verizon. IMO, Android is still shit compared to iOS. As for larger screen, that's what my iPad is for.

NO the battery is NOT replaceable like in the GS3.
YES you DO need iTunes. How do you sync MP3s and movies from your PC without iTunes
No you will LOVE the S3 if you actually used one
YES you are an Apple Fanboy and don't have a clue what you are going on about.

Yes it is. What part about remove two screws and bam, remove the battery do you not understand? What do you mean like the the S3? No one was comparing the iPhone battery to the S3.
"No you will LOVE the S3 if you actually used one"
Like I said, I did use one. Do you fucking speaking English?
"YES you are an Apple Fanboy and don't have a clue what you are going on about."
Oh yeah? Macs and OSX are complete shit. The absolute worst OS in the history of OS's especially if you need to network them. What now asshole? Am I still am Apple fanboy? Dipshit kids being raised by dipshit kids. Do everyone here a favor and go get an education.

Its a longer screen but its still NOT 16:9 like every other device in my house and just about every movie out there so you will still have black borders.
Stupid Apple. STILL not going along with EVERYONE else in the world.
Think about it. PCs are 16:9, TVs, Movies, Android Tablets, just about everything thats not Apple is 16:9.
I was thinking as its a longer screen it would be 16:9 but its not. It could've easily have been but no. FAIL AGAIN.
So when you say "iPhone 5 is Exactly What it Should Be" that is wrong as I've pointed out a good reason why its still stupid and not how it should be.

Massive facepalm.
You know why I go for Apple? Not the OS, not the brand...but the quality of their products and the quality of the customer service.
I can book an appointment right now to the Genius bar, walk in to the store tomorrow and boom walk out with a new phone.
What can you do? Phone a non-english speaking customer service, constantly get transferred and then finally give up.

OSX and Macs are crap, IMO. But I love iOS and their phones. At least with those, you can walk into any Apple store, or ATT/Verizon/Sprint store and walk out with a new phone. As for the carrier stores, that goes for any phone.

At any rate, you fix all that? Total and complete bullshit. If that were the case then you would of know the 4/4S and 5 all have replaceable batteries, in another article. But you didn't therefore you're nothing but a damn liar.
