POV: The iPhone 4S: a hit or a miss?

So, Apple "Let's talk iPhone" event last Tuesday has come and gone, ushering in a new era for the company past Steve Jobs, with the unveil of its newest hardware. Sadly though, it wasn't the long rumored/totally redesigned iPhone 5 that many of us thought.

It took Apple 16 months to develop a new device, and what did they come up with? A revamp version of the iPhone 4, called the iPhone 4S, with a slightly amped up internal specs, and with voice-recognition service as its crowning glory.

So, how does the it stack up against the competition? Well, let's take a look at the charts courtesy of Engadget to get a better view from the other smartphone elite - Samsung Galaxy S II, Motorola Droid Bionic and the HTC Titan.

The iPhone 4S is entering an increasingly crowded smartphone market, with competitors offering an equally impressive (some are even top notch, as you can see above) devices with a much higher specs, bigger displays at a much lower price point. The only good thing I can see from this? At least my iPhone 4 is still relevant, for now, at least. But then again, this got me thinking. Apple could have just postponed the launch of the iPhone 5 to pay tribute their good ole commander, with the S bearing his name as a sign of tribute.

Teflon02 you have know idea what you are talking about. They are using the A5 chip which its current max clock speed is 1GHZ. They are saying its twice as fast because its is dual core, unlike the iPhone 4 which is single core. The iPad 2 only has 512MB of RAM, the iPhone 4S won't need more RAM then the iPad 2. Oh and Android > iOS.

1GHz "Dual-core" meaning the frequency of the CPU is 1GHz per core and its has a total of 2, which is twice as fast iphone 4.

And where is you get your source of info for the RAM to be 1GB? its already been stated it has 512MB RAM.

that makes sense. the GB ram would just make sense seeing its twice as strong. i was prolly one of the only ppl i know expecting a 4s and not 5. and seeing from the same trend 3gs was 2X ram (3g 126MB and 3gs 256MB) just a better guess and im sure also so it can still keep up when the 5 comes out cuz the 3gs is dead just about now like 3g. so it will move slow if u update to much more. and the same will happen to 4 about 6 months after the 5 releases because it will need more ram to run smooth

why is everyone so retarted when it comes to the iphone, iphone are better because of the apps they run, and also it has the best and fastest graphics chip on a mobile platform, 5x faster then most phone and 7x faster then the previous iphone 4. Guys a phone with shitty graphics is a huge bottleneck. i definatly prefer graphics over cpu, imagine what 7x the power of iphone in gaming could do, yeah amazing

Emirh, talk about an apple fanboy! iphones are better because of the apps they run?? You do know almost all apps you can get on an iphone you can get on an android. Also if you interested in graphics then get a fucking PSP Vita instead of an iphone, the primary function of a phone isn't gaming so graphics isn't a huge bottle neck. As for the graphics being 5x better then any other phone, have you actually looked at the specs of the iphone 4s GPU, cause if you did you would know thats not the case.

A few things. The camera was greatly improved in the 4 and then again in the 4s.

What they've done with the camera in the 4s is actually pretty slick. I'm guessing the memory used in the 4s is faster then the iPad2 as it will take pictures faster then the iPad2 and the resolution of the pics are much higher so...something pretty heavy is going on there behind the scenes.

The speed increase from a 3GS to the 4s is a major jump in both CPU and GPU.

HD video? 720 on the 4 and 1080 on 4s.

I would say those are the three major changes. So unless you don't care about those features....there ya go.

I doubt there'll be many apps using the extra Cpu/Gpu speed so that means little to me when just flicking through the menus is quick enough anyway on the 4, and really the only way improved power and camera could get me going is if it had Super Slo-Mo.

hahaha i just re-read my comment and it kind of does make me sound like a apple fan boy, but a iphones the only apple product ive ever owned and hands down it is the worlds best phone,well in most peoples opinions and yes the psp vita is gonna be aws, psp vita is like a mini ps3 what more could you want
