Will Ice Cream Sandwich Kickstart an Android Gaming Revolution? |

The Ice Cream Sandwich update kit for Android is upon us and it packs a whole heap of new features that should have mobile gamers excited.
The two most notable additions for Androids new Ice Cream Sandwich are;
- USB Gamepad support
- HDMI

Now, before you go getting too excited, that are only a handful of mobile devices that will be able to successfully run Android 4.0, with the Galaxy Nexus one of the first.
This is a big step for Android (and the developers behind the Android framework, Google) who have been playing a little bit of catch-up with Apple since mobile gaming started to take off with the iPhone 3g and 3gs.
The addition of HDMI in Ice Cream Sandwich means that your Android phones, well, it becomes a game console if you think about it. Hook that puppy up to your LCD TV and away you go, gaming any time, anywhere (Angry Birds Rio never looked so good!).
Samsung games division have long been at the forefront of Android development, pushing for improvements along the way to give gamers a more accessible platform and Android 4.0 looks to be the start of this.
I can't totally imagine myself sitting on a train or bus with my PS3 or Xbox Controller hooked into my mobile phone, but hey, if people can wear crazy huge headphones, I can bring my console controller! (Editors Note: Micro-usb bridge adapter will be required).
This might be enough to push a lot of consumers in the direction of the Galaxytab (once those pesky lawsuits from Apple disappear regarding Intellectual property infringements).
Still, HDMI compatibility and USB controller access is a fairly advance concept. Props to Google for providing more Integration in devices, it is sorely needed given how many different platforms are around at the moment.

Yup, as always, most Droid users are SoL when it comes to updating. Even phones that have been released as new as 6 months ago wont ever get an update.

30 FPS LIMIT?
Human eye needs 24 locked FPS to see a good animantion. And my PS3 sports 60 fps and 120 fps in a lot of games. Do your research.
(Sorry for awful english)

Take a look at these HD games for Android Backstab, Modern Combat series, Shadowgun, Earth and Beyond, Riptide, Nova, and GT Racing Academy. While they don't have the depth of console games they are worth alternatives and when paired with an app like Sixaxis or Wiimote controller (no root required) coupled with HDMI out, you have a portable game console. And don't forget this fact. Most Android high end phones can play PSX, SNES, N64, MAME, Amiga, and Capcom emulators.
