Positech's Gratuitous Space Battles doesn't pass itself off as something that it's not. In fact, it's exactly what its title says -- a game that's all about the explosions and parts mangling that happens when armadas of heavily-armed battlecruisers and capital ships collide.

Built on the concept of Design, Deploy, and Destroy, Gratuitous Space Battles lets players concentrate on designing the ultimate space fleet and unleashing them on another AI- or player-designed fleet. Gratuitous Space Battles is currently undergoing an extended beta test period. If you pre-order the game, you get immediate access to the beta. The game's beta price, at US$ 19.95, is also reportedly going to be cheaper than the final launch price.
