The War Z Loses Its Trademark |

If you’ve been paying attention to the news then you would know already that The War Z has found itself in a little hot water since its Steam release on December 17th. If you don't know, the game was pulled due to allegations of false advertising regarding features that were not available or were not as advertised on the Steam Page. The War Z page has since been changed to reflect what is actually available in the game and it will have extra charges for extra content. Steam has offered dissatisfied customers the option of a refund.

This time around, the issue is in the name itself. The War Z is very similar in title to the book and coming movie “World War Z”. According to the US Patent and Trademark office, The War Z will have to change its name (the patent office has not officially said this, but it is inferred). The issue is rather simple. You see, Paramount issued two trademark applications 85673422 for World War Z “downloadable electronic game programs,” “electronic game software for handheld electronic devices,” and “video game cartridges and discs” and 85673431 mentions “providing online electronic games” related to World War Z.

Unfortunately for Hammerpoint Interactive, developer of The War Z, Paramount beat them to the trademark office by only 10 days suspending The War Z's trademark as of Nov 15th and leaving Hammerpoint Interactive with little other choice but to change name of The War Z... if it ever makes it back to Steam or any other retailer. Based on its track record to date I’m a little skeptical that it will ever make it back to market.
