If you're a fan of FPS and fun, why have you not got Team Fortress 2 in your Steam account? Oh right the 9GB, yeah, but it's worth it, I swear. Apparently, to Valve's fans, the in-game items are worth it too as Gabe Newell spoke recently that TF2 has a 20-30% conversion rate, which means that despite the fact that the game is free, players are spending actual money. That's almost a third of all the players are still paying and Newell admits in humility, he has no idea the reason.
"We don't understand what's going on," admitted Newell, "all we know is we're going to keep running these experiments to try and understand better what it is that our customers are telling us...and there are clearly things that we don't understand because a simple analysis of these statistics implies very contradictory yet reproducible results. So clearly there are things that we don't understand, and we're trying to develop theories for them."
The recent Manniversary I'm sure helped boost sales and interest, but apparently this has been happening for more than a month now. The way Gabe and crew have been experimenting, it's a wonder what HL2: Episode 3 will be like. I imagine an oddly perfect world where the game just comes out free and it opens with a big thank you from everyone from Valve...but hopefully I'll not die before the game is released.
