Leaked document spills Battlefield 3 details - Image 1Fast approaching you is the startling tale of leaked documents and tadaa! Battlefield 3. A supposed confidential document containing information on the second installment, Battlefield 2, had most of its content leaked, and it speaks volumes about the next modern day strategy-FPS hybrid dubbed as "Battlefield 3."

Now most of these details, as reported by DigitalBattle, were extracted directly from this three-page document in PDF format. Also, the document was intended for the eyes of investors (for Electronic Arts or Digital Illusions CE - take a pick), supposedly in a meeting to be held this December. DigitalBattle lists these specifics coming for the new BF game:
  • Release in late 2008
  • Powered by "Frostbite DX"
  • Set in year modern day
  • Will ship with 8 maps, each supporting up to 40-players per team
  • Two playable factions, NATO and MEC (Middle Eastern Coalition)
  • Same ticket-based gameplay style as before
  • Maps are mostly urban, based in Middle East
  • Squads and Commanders are present, introduced are “Battalions” which consist of three to four squads.
  • Five playable classes; Sniper, Assault, Engineer, Medic and Support
  • Will feature 48 different vehicles
  • Will feature 34 different weapons and another 22 unlocks (for both factions), in total 56 different weapons.
  • Other unlocks include different types of ammunition, body armor, helmets, camouflage and accessories.
  • Possible public beta in summer 2008?
  • Online stats tracking, awards and "real world ranks"
  • “Soldier” feature, looks like MMO-styled characters and avatars
  • Ranked servers will be available for resellers weeks before the game ships
  • In-game replay and recording feature
  • VoIP, friends list, in-game IM-client and "extensive clan support"
  • Built-in auto software updater
  • Windows Vista and OS X
  • Announcement and teaser trailer in January 2008.
In addition, there seems to be a map that was specifically mentioned, called Baghdad Burning. The map was clued as being massive and set in the urban zone of the Iraqi capital. Also take note that Battlefield: Bad Company (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360) uses the Frostbite engine for rendering. Frostbite DX appears to be the DX10 version and not DX9, since it was not stated that the game would come out for Windows XP.

We know it burns, but by late 2008, Microsoft would have ensured that Vista will be the only supported platform for gaming. More developments on this as they arise.

Battlefield 3, more like Battlefield 2: Enhanced, amirite?

They've really fallen off the wagon if this is the game they're making. They should go back to the warfare of Battlefield 1942. It's all garbage now. =(
