Blizzard Teases New Terran Unit for Heart of the Swarm |

“StarCraft II” was released in summer of 2010, but you may have already forgotten that “Wings of Liberty” is just the first of three planned sections of the game. The second two sections, titled “Heart of the Swarm” and “Legacy of the Void,” promise to introduce new story elements and center on a specific race, similar to how “Wings of Liberty” focused on the struggles of the Terran.
Additionally, each expansion brings new units to the “StarCraft II” universe, ensuring that battles stay fresh with each new addition and strategies are always changing. The first new unit, packaged with “Heart of the Swarm,” has been revealed by Blizzard. Sort of:

It’s Blizzard’s style to be purposefully dodgy with details, so the rough outline of the new unit is all players are getting for now. What we do know is that the unit will be available to Terran players, which means it will probably be some sort of mobile bunker that takes twelve marines to operate and is utterly useless on the battlefield. Blizz has likely started some sort of one-faction-at-a-time reveal, since each expansion brings one new unit to all three factions.
In addition to this mysterious unit, “Heart of the Swarm” brings new innovation to “StarCraft II,” focusing on the character development of Kerrigan as she works to contain the Zerg swarm. You’ll be able to choose different battle focuses for her throughout the game, enhancing the strengths of your particular play style. You’ll also be able to purchase upgrades for her abilities, further pushing her into whatever style works best for you.
There’s still no official release date for “Heart of the Swarm,” but I think we’ll be seeing it sometime in 2012. Of course, Blizzard is known for delaying games due to quality concerns, so don’t get your hopes up until you have the game in your hands.
In the meantime, do you think new units are a threat to the relative balance of “StarCraft II?”
