I think with any game you will have people who will detract from it saying it's like this game or that game plus something else. I heard many people at the dawn of Q.U.B.E's online presence claiming the game was not dissimilar from Valve's Portal series. I'm here to tell you that the game is NOT like Portal. It may have certain design aesthetics which puts it in a very similar style to the dimensional-warping game, but nothing ever outright makes it feel like a Portal game. This is both it's triumph and failure.
Q.U.B.E was recently released from Toxic Games who are a relatively small development studio and have been working on the game for over two years. The game is mainly made up of a simple game mechanic involving cubes. Yes, the actual title itself is a cute little pun on the word itself but that's where the fun ends with the word cube. There's no inherently clever word play or a character to bounce things off of. The game itself is quite devoid of any real personality or character outside the music and world your muted single player inhabits.

The game instantly drops you into the world and you look at your gloved hands and white-walled room and you make no audible noise or any kind of movement other than a slight look into the bright light's above you. So far from the world you seem now. But this is where your journey begins as you make your way down a corridor and you are greeted with a red cube. It doesn't actually say anything, it's just there in it's #FF0000 glory and your glove sparks up and you simply make a radar-like effect on the cube (or QUBE). You can push it and pull it without even touching it and this is where I already start to feel torn about the game.
