nuclear disasterOkay, you've read the previous articles and saw all the enticing screenshots. But what's the game all about?

The storyline of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is a "what if" scenario based on what really happened in 1986, dubbed as the worst nuclear disaster ever. During this time, an antenna rumored to emit psychoactive radio-waves (rough translation: waves that mess around with your brain) was built. That's where it all starts. The developers based the story on a mix of fact, fiction, and conspiracy theory.

It's 2006. An explosion rocks Chernobyl again and the first thing on people's minds is the reactor. Strange things follow suit. People who venture into the exclusion zone mysteriously disappear. The government closes the area off until an alternative comes along. After a while, the Zone grows by several kilometers.

Two years later, mutant creatures appear at the fringes of the Zone. Curiosity drives some people into venturing into the area. Those who managed to get out were able to collect "artifacts", objects from the Zone which contained an anomalous energy. This resulted to a mad rush for more since the artifacts were being bought at a high price. Those who tried their luck in the Zone were called "stalkers".

Fast forward to 2012, you wake up and realize that you have no memories whatsoever (amnesia always sucks). You were found in the Zone and a dealer of artifacts helped you recover. To repay the dealer, you go through several missions in the Zone.

Sound interesting? S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl by Ukrainian developer GSC Game World and THQ will be released March of next year.
