Games that pushed the art of storytelling forward

typewriterGames with good storylines are hard to find. A lot of what we see today are just rehashes and quick jobs that sacrifice the need for a good backstory in exchange for pretty visuals. A game with groundbreaking storytelling is even harder to find, but if and when you do get to encounter one, it's an experience that you're never going to forget.

Last month, the editors of Gamasutra asked its readers as well as a few game industry professionals to vote for which game made the biggest impact on the advancement of storytelling in videogames. It was essentially a free-for-all for all games - regardless of genre - spanning the period from the early days of videogaming right through to the present day.

So, who got the top honors? We're not going to spoil it for you guys, of course, but one anonymous voter's reason for choosing it was that the game "achieved a sense of agency unmatched in any game previous and (in my opinion) every game since, including its own sequel."

Intrigued? Well then, just click on the 'read' link below to see for yourself which title got the honor of receiving such high praise. If you want to voice out your opinions or talk about which games you think are the ones who really pushed the art of storytelling forward, don't hesitate to leave a comment.

at last someone's sees what I do.

Companies are making games only for visual effects. Kids get used to it. There's NO good story game since few years !

Certainly I would vote for Final Fantasy VII as the best one. Or Chrono Trigger (superior story too!).

But hell sims !!! OMFG gaming world is going to an end.
