Alert: Fallout 3 teaser is less than a week away |
Ó
The teaser images on Fallout 3's official site are getting more and more intriguing with each passing week. The fact that the teaser for the anticipated RPG is set to arrive in less than seven days is like pouring hydrochloric acid on our open, Fallout-starved wounds.
Although this will be the first Fallout game to be developed by the award-winning development team at Bethesda, the teaser images we've seen so far hint that this will be a quality title (at least that's what most fans hope). A confirmed inclusion of voice acting by Liam Neeson, and the use of the Gamebryo engine has helped ease some doubts.
The first teaser image was that of a wasteland. The second one was a derelict White House with a post-apocalyptic flavor. The third one featured a post apocalyptic harbor. The fourth featured what looked to be several soldiers rejoicing over a corpse of a fallen enemy, and the latest one features what looks to be a rotten Jefferson Memorial (observe the image above).
Why are the teaser images so intriguing for longtime Fallout fans? Here's a refresher for those too young to remember: The first two Fallout installments were mostly set in the west coast. Images of a partially destroyed, post-apocalyptic Washington DC hint at an expanded setting for this new Bethesda offering.
The previous installments in the Fallout franchise developed by Interplay were released during the 90s. Both were highly regarded as stand-out RPG titles. Interplay is still under obligation to launch a Fallout MMOG within the next six years.
Will the new Fallout from Bethesda be enough to satisfy fans? Or will we be forced to wait for the MMOG made by Interplay to get a taste of true Fallout flavor? Liam Neeson is nice and all, but to truly satisfy an eager fan base they have to get a lot of things right: the references, the humor, and the style.
Change what they would with the gameplay, or graphics, or setting, some things just have to be there - even if it's in spirit only. As Ron Perlman always said at the start of each Fallout: "War. War never changes."
In a few days Bethesda's teaser trailer for Fallout 3 will give us a better idea.
