Women's groups petitioning ban of Duke Nukem Forever sale |
Listed in: News Tags: duke nukem forever, Gearbox Software, randy pitchford
The most recent debacle surrounding the already controversial game is the "Capture the Babe" mode, where Duke "can give the girl a love smack on the booty - not face!"
That was Gearbox Software CEO's Randy Pitchford's description of it, but regardless of where the smack is going to land, Women's Groups are not too thrilled about it.

As such, they have now launched a petition that aims to block the sale of the game from stores unless the devs take out the said offensive mode. The letter is addressed to Walmart, it being one of the primary sellers of the game.
Said the petition:
"Early reports reveal the new Duke Nukem Forever game is set to be released with a "Capture the Babe" mode of play. In this disturbing version of "capture the flag" the player is tasked with kidnapping a woman from his enemy's base, throwing her over his shoulder, and carrying her back to his base to share the spoils. If she starts to 'freak out', the player is encouraged to slap her on the butt until she shuts up. This is a blatant celebration of violence against women in a game that will be played primarily by young people.
Walmart is a family friendly retailer and customers will not stand for the promotion of violence against women to the young people who walk through the store doors. Please publicly state that Walmart stores will not sell the Duke Nukem Forever game unless the "babe-slapping mode" is removed."
Walmart has yet to respond on the request. If you are inclined to support the petition, head on over to Change.org's site listed below.

But wait... she's a woman, so it can't possibly be sexist? Yay for double standards.

i feel sorry for your future husband.
there is no "fight for equality" anymore, if any fight exists, its because the pendulum has swung TOO far in favor of women and there are many inequalities men face today.
because of physical gender differences (not just physical build) there will ALWAYS be differences in the way men and women are treated (should men get maternity leave when thier wife is pregnant?- sounds ludicrus, but thats what true equality would entail).
much of laws and social attitudes favor women over men in other ways that are not so ridiculous that they shouldn't be equal however.
problem is that there is this patriarchal social expectation by many women who want to pick and chose when to be "equal" and when to be "protected" and thats the core of many of the inequalies men face- and in some cases women too.
this is a damn game that is producing a satirical stereotype personality that is so over the top that it satirizes 80's macho stereotypes. if you don't get that- you are under 18, if you are under 18 you should not be playing this game.
there is no reason this game should be prohibited from sale or any group should be protesting it. it is not aimed at children any more than an nc17 rated movie is.

Besides, men ARE better than women. I bet that if you take a man and a woman randomly out of the population, the man will be able to over power the woman and force her to service him in making him a sandwich and cleaning the house before she escapes from her confinement.
That alone shows that us men are the SUPERIOR and STRONGER sex. These sexist women need to learn to shut up about womans rights before us men remove women's rights to vote.
By them bitching, prove that they are the weaker sex. Women always having express their opinion is evidence enough to show that they are weak and cannot control themselves.
I'm glad i unplug the modem before i leave for work, dont want my woman to read lies and biased articles that say that it's unfair how women are treated.
I'm also thinking of attaching her to a chain run-line so that she is only able to be in either the kitchen or the bedroom.
If any women vote this down, THAT also proves that we are right since they cannot control themselves with expressing their opinions WHICH WERE CREATED FROM BIASED ARTICLES.

(see, that's what we call "humor".)

Although I support the free expression of ideas in media, children are greatly influenced by the media they experience. If this game includes something that is to be understood as humor rather than a promotion of sexist behavior, then the rating for the game needs to reflect that, and people below a reasonable age should not be allowed to purchase or play it.
Now, whether or not Walmart wants to pull the game from their store is their choice. It's their business and they will go with whatever makes them the most money in the long-term. You have the right to choose whether or not you support this particular act of censorship. We're all supposedly rational consumers (some more than others, apparently) and so we have the freedom to vote with our dollar.
Women also have the freedom to pursue an education and enable themselves to avoid ignorant misogynistic assholes like you.

I know lazy ass mothers who want society or walmart to act as their kids parent.
I truly hate women's right as it's going in the wrong direction.

However, I am sickened by the words you type here, saying that women should be happy that men LET them work and vote, that they don't know how good they have it.
Ever stood still and thought about the fact they are human beings and not some sort of untermensch.
Just because women don't have the muscular build of men, doesn't mean that they shouldn't be able to work or be allowed to vote.
I wonder where you barbarians were brought up. Just for the record, I'm not a gal.

PS. I'm not a girl. I just believe in women rights.

Although I'd say a bit misleading.
Its not that we dont care about women.
Why would a butt spanking game be created to sell a game to people who dont care about women?
Hint: Its not because we want to murder them, despite what some nutball dykey group would prefer you to believe.

Chances are it won't even be remembered and/or played after 2-3 years.
Games are so disposable these days that their argument will be moot when the next sexist game comes out, most likely it will be GTA V.

Yes, I noticed that also.
;)
But dont forget that they did also try to ban any violence in games too, until it became a billion dollar industry like the movies.
Now its a military recruitment tool.
If you pay attention to any of these activist groups in general anywhere, they have no problem contradicting themselves or disregarding common sense and logic as long as they're pushing their specific agenda.
They're just different stripes of zealots, who by their very nature and definition are necessarily unreasonable and should never be trusted or taken seriously.

YOU CAN NOT MAKE A GAME KILLING FEMALES HOOKERS ON POLES!
YOU CANNOT SHOW CHILDREN DYING!
YOU CANNOT SHOW SEX!
Fuck the government and fuck society. The people only knows what the people want. If I wanted to beat on a girl in a video game I'd put the old Raw game from thq on original xbox take a steel hair and hit her with it then I'd go on story mode have someone jump her then drop a steel crate on her head. But a smack on the ass goes TOO FAR..

nahhh for real...this is going to be a 18+ there's a rating for a reason...

Now, go to a female stripper, and we men can yell, scream, shout, and....yell, scream, shout some more, BUT TOUCHING IS NOT ALLOWED!
Now if Duke Nukem had a mode that was reversed in the spanking, a boatload of girl gamers would be playing. Would us men be partitioning to have the game banned from being sold? Hell no, we just wouldn't play the frackin' level at all.

I've only ever heard or seen like 3-4 women in my whole life with a decent sense of humor.
(Tina fey, Paula Poundstone.)
I guess god generally hands out a sense of humor with your dick so that most women just aren't built for it.

Any time a group, with an agenda of their own, tries to inflict their views on the rest of the populace, I am happy to see the community fight back.
Freedom of speech applies to both groups. When you censor one, all suffer.

You are a grown ass parent, ACT LIKE IT! There is a rating on the box for a reason, and the clerks are walmart ask you "Are you sure you want to buy this for little Jimmy. Its very violent and sexually graphic". If that doesn't spark a though in your fraking head, well then you are the problem, not the game.

That said, not all females feel the same way. Some are looking forward to it.For gods sake, there are TV shows such as CIS that have many episodes about rape. Why not protest those? Boohoo, spanking a ass is a bit offensive but there are many more offensive things that are even easier to access than a video game with a rating and warning not to sell to minors.
Reply
I'm sure if females were the main target audience of more video games, there sure as hell would be rated M mini-games centered around grabbing at/slapping various parts of the male anatomy. Why is it so much more offensive just because the gender roles are reversed in the non-hypothetical situation?
Really, move on to more important matters like the rights of women in third world countries, or equal pay. This is a game, for fuck sake.
