Windows 8 Sells 60 Million |
Listed in: News Tags: Microsoft, windows 7, windows 8
Windows 8 has certainly had its share of lovers and haters since its launch in November. Many analysts have said that the adoption rate for the new OS remains quite slow when compared to the fanfare that emerged with Windows 7. However, at CES 2013, the company painted a much different picture for their latest PC OS offering. Here's what they had to say.
According to a statement made by Windows Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Financial Officer Tami Reller at the Consumer Electronics Show, things are looking pretty darn awesome for Windows 8. Just a few months after the interface's launch, the company has supposedly seen 60 million licenses make their way to machines around the globe. In general, she also claims that this is quite a similar trajectory to what we saw at about this time following the launch of Windows 7. A key thing to note about these numbers though is that this figure includes both OEM factory installs as well as user upgrade purchases, so it sort of makes sense that we would see a number that high. After all, stock Windows 7 devices are numbered these days.

In contrast to these glowing words, most of the tech community has been at least a little bit unsure of what to think about the latest MS OS. For lovers of the brand, this marks an important shift for computing with touch interfaces, while the more average user is probably going to be complaining about the learning curve that they must pass to fully utilize the new features. Not to mention the Windows Store so far hasn't had much to write home about. Regardless there have supposedly been over 100 million app downloads too.
Are people actually scooping up Windows 8, or is this transition more or less a forced company plan?

"they pretty much wipe all other Windows OSs from the market..."
No they didn't. There are 10's of thousands of Win7 units still out there. You might not find them at Best Buy, but they are out there.

They even have new desktops with Win7 as well.

Its not like you have a choice but to buy Windows with that new Toshiba or HP or Asus or whatever Laptop. Especially since if you need it for school or work or whatever, chances are you need Office and several other windows-only apps.
And of course, pretty much all Windows computers are Windows 8 nowadays.
So no, customers sure as hell aren't choosing Windows 8 just by buying a PC with it pre-loaded. The fact that Start8, an app that makes Windows8's GUI act and look like 7's, has sold hundreds of thousands of copies in the app store despite costing $5 should speak volumes about customers "choosing" Windows 8.

What the hell are you talking about? This is about Windows "8". Not Windows in general.
Get with the program.
Oh and....startisback.com is a much better alternative. At least get to know your tools.
Since you're not capable....Newegg.com has 333 different laptop models with Windows 7 Pro and another 181 different laptop models with Windows 7 Home Premium and that's just laptops.
So no, no one has to buy Win8. Thus OEM machines are perfectly valid.
