Will Wright has new games in the works |

Industry legend Will Wright, the man behind such games as SimCity and The Sims, has been on a bit of a sabbatical since Spore was released back in 2008. It appears that he's ready to jump back into game designing, though. At this year's Game Developers Conference, Wright revealed that he is now currently working on some new game projects that go off in a decidedly non-traditional direction.
"For the most part, the stuff we're working on is not shrink-wrapped, AAA, Xbox-only. It's stuff that's a little more diffuse, mobile, web," he explained. "I'm really interested right now in games that get people more engaged in the world around them rather than distract them from it. Using the world as a human platform rather than an Xbox. Kind of AR stuff."
Apart from his new augmented reality-related game projects, Wright aso revealed that his new company, Stupid Fun Club, is busy trying to "move gaming out into the wider world." To accomplish that, the company is working on a bunch of toys including an ant farm that will be released later this year. Toys are just one weapon in Stupid Fun Club's arsenal of tactics, though, as Wright also mentioned that they plan to bring their projects to the web and other similar avenues as well.
