What you can and can't do in Homefront's dedicated servers |

One of the major considerations publisher THQ and developer Kaos Studios are giving PC gamers is the addition of dedicated servers to Homefront. To that end, the developers have recently let loose some info detailing what players can and can't do with the upcoming first-person shooter's dedicated servers.
Video game news site Segment Next reports that the game's dedicated servers will support a maximum of 32 players. They will also have clan support for PC and Battle Commander and Battle Points features. The game will be available on Steam and will use the game download service's own VAC anti-cheating software.
At first, players will only be able to manage the server via the game’s own RCON. Third party RCON tools developed later on will be fully supported. However, the amount of changes a player can make to the servers seems to be limited, since all servers will be ranked. If you plan on taking your game to these servers and customizing them, you better familiarize yourself with the points outlined below first:
- There will be no option to change spawn times or the weapons available to the players.
- No hardcore mode is included. This is done mainly to preserve the competitive aspect of the game.
- Servers will be able to run in 'mixed mode', which will alter the game-types of the server automatically.
- There will be a "Message of the Day" support, and the option to make servers private is also a possibility.
- Admins will be able to toggle auto-balancing on and off, force a player to spectate, and switch members to a team.
- The dedicated servers do not required Steam Client to be logged in.
- The server variables included are:
- Server Name
- MOTD
- Game Mode (easy to have mixed mode)
- GC Score Limit
- TDM Score Limit
- Time Limit
- Internet (off for LAN)
- Vac Secured
- No of Slots
- Game Port
- Query Port
- AdminPassword
- GamePassword
- Friendly Fire
- No Vehicles
- Record Demo
In addition to the things listed above, Kaos Studios is also considering the addition of a patch that will allow a Ready-up Timer, Halftime team-switching/side switching and round numbers selection.
Homefront will hit PCs along with PS3s and Xbox 360s come March 15. Gamers in Europe will get it on March 18.
