Watch This: SimCity’s Awesome Glassbox Engine |
Listed in: News Tags: glassbox, Maxis, simcity
SimCity is a beloved franchise, one that retains strong fan support despite a few relatively weak entries over recent years. Maxis seems to be aware that a lot is riding on its upcoming revival of the franchise, and is working to develop one of the most intricate and compelling SimCity games ever created.
If this video showcasing the company’s new Glassbox simulation engine is any indicator, Maxis is definitely on the right track. Take a look (remember, this is an engine demo—the graphics are placeholders):
It’s been a while since I jumped into the SimCity series, but I’m a big fan of the ability to expand certain buildings to increase their functionality. It’s also really cool that everything you see in the game has something to do with the creation, distribution and use of resources—SimCity is shaping up to be the most realistic and complex game in the series.
Naturally, everything depends on how this engine is implemented into the actual game, but for now, things look pretty sweet.
What do you think of the Glassbox engine?
