Wasteland 2 Makes Bank |

Kickstarter has been on a game-creating rampage in 2012, with a number of high profile projects taking to the crowd-funding website in the hopes of becoming reality. Brian Fargo’s attempt to continue the Wasteland saga is just one of many, but that hasn’t stopped it from raking in an astonishing $2,933,197.

According to Edge, thanks to additional PayPal pledges of $107,137, the project bounced neatly over the $3 million mark, with about 60,000 individual donors. With the extra cash, Fargo and his team intend to create a suite of modding tools for Wasteland 2 alongside the actual game production.
The success of this and other Kickstarters is likely to inspire new devs to drudge up old titles, so be on the lookout for crowd-sourced versions of your favorite old-timey PC games. Personally, I could get behind Alone in the Dark HD or SimLife 2012, but who knows what’s on or off the table?
In the meantime, Wasteland’s enormous haul serves as a reminder that when gamers really want something, they’re more than willing to shell out the big bucks.
