Focus Home Interactive has announced Wargame: European Escalation, the new real time strategy game from Eugen Systems, a specialist of the genre and developer of the critically lauded Act of War: Direct Action, and more recently R.U.S.E.

Set in the rarely explored period of 1975-1985, Wargame: European Escalation pits NATO (USA and Western Europe) against the Warsaw Pact (Soviet and Eastern European countries) in battles that explore "what could have been." The specter of nuclear warfare loomed large over the real Cold War, but this catastrophic outcome was the ultimate last resort as everyone knew that the first one to start nuclear hostilities would end up wiped out just the same. Large, armored offensives through Europe would certainly have been the core of this hypothetical war; and this is what the game's explosive campaign takes you through!

Wargame: European Escalation is built upon the foundation of classic strategy games, featuring an "impressive list of features and enhancements in order to provide a unique and innovative gaming experience to all real-time strategy fans."

The title will be fully unveiled at this year's E3 Expo, so be sure to check back at QJ for more information about Wargame: European Escalation.

There have been a lot of tank games recently. This, Panzer Command, and World of Tanks to name a few.

Man, consoles can go down the goddamn drain for all I care. All I hear is console-kiddies whining about this, or that. Each console is operating on at -least- 4 year old hardware with no opportunity for upgrades or backwards compatibility. In the real gaming platform, PC, you can upgrade as you see fit, it's -just- as mobile as a console (laptops) and you can play ANY game. I still am playing Fatal Racing (a little-known game from the 90s) that was based in DOS, on DosBox.

The difference though is that you don't need to periodically spend in excess of £100 to upgrade gfx cards and processors and the like on consoles. I personally love playing games on my computer, I recently spent close to £600 on a decent mid range gaming laptop which I was pretty happy about. But after DLing W:EE and finding that my decent laptop can't handle it, I find I'm really disappointed that I won't be able to experience this game at a good frame rate albeit with the trade off of graphic and processing performance without forking out another couple of hundred quid on upgrades
