It’s amazing what some groups can achieve thru donations alone, and Double Fine’s Kickstarter campaign is a testament to this. Their next adventure title has managed to amass…$2.7 million. Wait, what?

That’s right, almost 3 million US dollars have gone towards the budget of a videogame through donations. Tim Schafer of Double Fine (and a ‘few’ other little things in the past) said about it: “Three million dollars…that was the budget of Grim Fandango!”

That is one hell of a donated budget, especially considering that the target was a mere $400,000.

Schafer added to his Twitter message about Grim Fandango shortly afterwards with ‘Holy cow, the next 52 hours are going to be exciting’ and proceeded to say ‘We’re looking into doing a livestream countdown.’

Well, if any campaign’s success was to merit a Livestream countdown, it’s definitely a success like this one.

Here’s hoping the game is worth the fan effort.
