Valve Shoots Down Console Rumors and Hopes of Gamers Everywhere |
Listed in: News Tags: Steam, steam box, valve
Last week, the game-news-o-sphere exploded with rumors that Valve was working on some sort of gaming console. The story, which naturally came from one “top-secret” source within Valve, outlined the device journalists would come to know as the Steam Box. There were a couple of hard facts to support the possibility in the form of a patent filed by Valve and confirmation of its origin, but beyond that nothing concrete really surfaced.

Well, until now. Valve’s marketing director, Doug Lombardi, has gone on the record concerning the device. Actually, concerning the lack of a device:
“We're prepping the Steam Big Picture Mode UI and getting ready to ship that, so we're building boxes to test that on. We're also doing a bunch of different experiments with biometric feedback and stuff like that, which we've talked about a fair amount."
"All of that is stuff that we're working on, but it's a long way from Valve shipping any sort of hardware.”
Of course, Lombardi did note that Valve may very well release a console in the future, just that fans shouldn’t expect an announcement or reveal any time soon.
For now, it looks like Steam fans will just have to stick with their PCs.
Would you buy a Valve console?
