HiRez Studios have finally settled on a date for the start of Tribes: Ascend's beta phase. As HiRez's Todd Harris told Cyberlink in an interview, the date to watch is Friday, November 4th.
The free-to-play sci-fi shooter's beta was supposed to launch last month, but was moved to make way for some additional features that the team decided to implement after the alpha testing phase.
"That was kind of our original plan, but there were a few adjustments that we wanted to make before beta," he said. "Specifically, some things we've been working on are character progression elements, those were things that weren’t in alpha but will be in beta.
"Secondly, with the changes or improvements based on feedback from the alpha testing group," he continued. "Disc jump strength was one, some challenge that people had in chasing down flag cappers which is a big part of the game, basically ability to quickly gain momentum from a standstill, and even overall speed of the game."
Speed is one of the focal points in Tribes: Ascend. It's being built as a "new generation of the online multiplayer shooter" while still staying true to classic elements like jetpacks, skiing, and strategic teamwork-based play. We'll find out how true it stays to the classic series come November.
