THQ loses stocks after Homefront fails to reach 80 on Metacritic

THQ has put a lot of investment in Kaos Studios' Homefront. Less than stellar reviews of the first-person shooter, however, have caused the publisher to lose quite a bit of stock.

GameSpot reports that THQ stocks fell 21 percent to US$ 4.69 after Homefront failed to reach a Metacritic score of 80. The game, which launched Tuesday, currently has a Metacritic score of 72, 73, and 75 on Xbox 360, PC, and PS3, respectively.

"This score is a bit of a disaster for THQ and the share price today is reflecting that," Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey told Reuters. "The market is a quality driven market (and) you need at least a score of 80 and above on Metacritic to do well."

The current market leader in the FPS genre, Call of Duty: Black Ops, holds a Metacritic rating of 88.

It's not that it was terrible, but it did kind of remind me of turning point at times :(

the whole pressing X to ascend or descend a ladder, delayed prompts (JUMP INTO THE GRAVE YOU F*CK THEY'RE COMING!). It is almost by definition a on the rails shooter (no real open level options for movement, you enter an area, and the exit is ONE alleyway, with lots of scripted almost cliche gameplay at times), but it did have its giblet jingling moments.

I don't know about you guys, but the end of the first level really got to me, hearing the baby cry and the woman going ape in that house was nuts. it's the first time in a long time I caught myself gritting my teeth during an in game event.

The multiplayer is fun, great perks and extras at a reasonable rate of unlock. great way of using them too, no more getting pissed off when you get sniped one kill away from dogs

Good game, great concept, bit to "corridory", good MP.
But really THQ, would it have been to much to be able to get to the other side of a fence by...you know, jumping over it instead of having to run completely around the block. The guy is an ex pilot FFS, he cant hop a 5ft plank.

Not a point over 75, IMO.

Just traded it in at Gamefly. I was just so disappointed that I didn't even touch the multiplayer. I already have Bad Company 2 and Black Ops to fill in that realistic shooter gap.

that's pretty poor grammar.

and technically, it would be more accurate to say "THQ's stock falls..."

they aren't losing stock, it's just worth less.

Where can we go to reduce or vote down that trash? CoD doesn't belong near the top of any lists unless it's to join ET in a landfill. It's one game I will not allow to ruin my expansive collection.

the only reason why it did not score well is because there is not a cod tag with in the title

both CODBO and this are terrible in my opinion. Last good COD game was COD4 before activision started pushing a new game every year.

The game was a (disappointment ) and almost everything they say or the score they gave it is pretty (acceptable) for one campaign was wayyyyyyy to short for a $65 game.well maybe the multiplayer makeup for na it's shity also. ps fuck call of duty

not sure why everyone has to believe what metacritic says anyways. can't you make up your own mind and opinions on a game? Here in the midwest (wisconsin, rural) i didn't see hardly any advertising for this game, so I'm not going to spend 60+ bucks on it.

also, CODBO should never have gotten an "88". the multiplayer is sketchy and the single player i could've cared less for.

DaMan1900 has it right, the last really good call of duty was cod4. bad company 2 blows mw2 and bo away in terms of story and MP imo.
