This is What Making Minecraft Buys You |

Listen, I don’t want to sound like a cynical, worrisome jerk. But these new pictures from the Mojang office are disconcerting to say the least. Fueled by the success of Minecraft (rock on, guys), Mojang has finally made the leap into a full-on production space, and it looks like this:

Now, there’s nothing wrong with a little upgrade. But that new space looks like a shitload of overhead for a games company that’s actually only made and released one game. I can’t help but be reminded of the recent 38 Studios debacle—they had the raw Kingdoms of Amalur sales to stay alive, but spent way too much money before waiting for things to normalize. Mojang’s new digs are extremely reminiscent of the headquarters of Entertainment 720 (enjoy that reference, Parks and Rec lovers).
We’ve seen plenty of examples in recent gaming history of small studios attempting to grow too fast and shooting themselves in the foot. I hope Mojang isn’t next.

So hopefully minecraft keeps them going.
Sooner or later, nobody will need anymore copies.
