We've got good news and bad news for you, Australian gamers. Which one would you like to get first?
Oh never mind. Let's start off with the good news first. The Witcher 2 is coming to Australia! The bad news, it's going to be edited.
CD Project's The Witcher 2 has gone gold and is all ready to ship out later this month. But in order to get it through the rigorous ratings system of Australia, CD Projekt and publisher Namco Bandai had to make a few concessions.
Among those concessions would be to make certain modifications in the game, particularly on the mature themes present in the game. Had they not done so, then it would have retained the Refused Classification rejection stamp it initially got, which essentially would ban the game from the country.
Said Namco Bandai:
"The modification was a small change we requested the developer to make to one scene during one of the games side quests.
In the original version your character Geralt was given the choice of accepting sex 'as a reward' for successfully completing this particular side quest. The Australian Classification Board originally refused classification as they deemed the inclusion of 'sex as reward' as not suitable for an MA15+ classification.
The change is only minor, in that the character choice is now made automatically for him. The character and the side quest are still in the game but presented in a slightly different context. No other changes have been made and this change has no impact on gameplay, storyline or character development."
Hey, at least the game's still coming your way, right? The Witcher 2comes out on May 17th.
