The Lord of the Rings: War in the North challenge maps are now on-disc |

Snowblind Studios had originally planned to give away a couple of challenge maps to gamers who pre-order The Lord of the Rings: War in the North. The latest developer blog reveals that things have changed.
Instead of being pre-order exclusives, the two challenge maps will be available on disc to everybody. "After seeing the passion from the Community and Fans for this mode of play, we have decided to put them on disc for everyone to enjoy," reads the blog post.
The challenge maps recreate two of Middle-Earth's infamous battle grounds -- Osgiliath and Lorien. They are accessible from the Midle-Earth map at any time after they're unlocked by reaching the game's second "hub".
Both Osgiliath and Lorien task players will facing off against wave after wave of enemies that can normally be met as the game's main campaign progresses. It's a challenging way for players to get bonus XP, loot, coins and achievements. Osgiliath is aimed towards lower level players and is recommended for those at levels 4 to 16. It's recommended that players hold off on tackling the Lorien map until they reach levels 11 to 22.
The Lord of the Rings: War in the North is currently slated for release on November 1st on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. If you have some extra cash lying around, you can spring for the US$ 130 collector's edition. Pricey, but you do get a free arrow quiver with it. You'll have to provide your own arrows, though.
