Tera devs defending themselves from NCSoft plagarism |

Bluehole Studio and their American publisher En Masse Entetainment have decided to defend and fight claims of theft after the launch of the fantasy MMO, Tera. Earlier this month NCSoft filed a complaint saying that Bluehole Studio built the game Tera after nicking things from Lineage 3, a NCSoft MMO title and was seeking a temporary and permanent injunction to block the release of the title in the United States.
En Masse's VP of publishing, Chris Lee said in a recent forum post that his company is prepared to do whatever it takes to defend Tera's release, saying "we are disappointed that NCSoft is attempting to mar the launch of Tera...unfortunately we can't discuss much publicly due to the sensitivity of the legal actions, but we do outright reject the NCSoft Claims and [are going] to do everything in our power to defend and protect ourselves." Despite the legal matters, Lee confirmed En Masse stll plan on launching Tera on May the 1st of this year.
Prior to the current conflict some people might be interested in knowing that a lot of Bluehole staff are actually ex-NCSoft devs and ran into some trouble back in 2009 when some of them were accused of stealing trade secrets from NCSoft. While there was no final ruling for the case, some accusations were quite grandoise. Tera did launch in Korea last year and will hopefully launch on May 1st in the US and on the 3rd in Europe.
Do you think in a digital age, anything is still considered original?
