Valve, the company behind Steam Works has come up with another bold and interesting proposal to stay ahead in the digital distribution world. They will be releasing their non-games to the public.

What this means is beginning on September 5th Valve will be selling what they dubbed as “creativity to productivity” software to go along with hit games such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal plus a bevy of other third party software.
To date Valve has some 40 million registered users on their website. Users will be able to capitalize on user-friendly installs, automatic updates and having the luxury of storing your work to your own personal Cloud space.
While rival companies like Electronic Arts focus solely on games Valve is trying to stay ahead of the curve by incorporating a larger fan base to their network. By having diverse content new users will be exposed to the pre-existing games on their network. It would be interesting to see how the existing gaming fan base responds to the changes starting in September.
