Steam is Coming to Linux |
Listed in: News Tags: left 4 dead 2, Linux, Steam, Ubuntu, valve
Disclaimer: I don’t know anything about Linux. So if I say something wrong somewhere in here, you can save your nerdy corrections and just assume that I seriously don’t care. And with that out of the way, let’s talk Steam.
As of this week, Valve has confirmed that Steam is coming to Linux. In fact, Left 4 Dead 2 is already running in Ubuntu, which is apparently a Linux thing. Additionally, Valve has a whole team of folks working to bring Steam and the company’s first-party titles over to Linux.

Here’s a quote:
“The goal of the Steam client project is a fully-featured Steam client running on Ubuntu 12.04. We've made good progress this year and now have the Steam client running on Ubuntu with all major features available.”
"We're still giving attention and effort to minor features, but it's a good experience at the moment. In the near future, we will be setting up an internal beta focusing on the auto-update experience and compatibility testing."
Make of that what you will, Linux fans.

ouya is arm based, I suppose valve made an x86 port of source engine for linux(mostly direct3d to opengl), they now release steam for linux but that doesnt mean you can download l4d2 for ouya when ouya get to stores, they need to port to arm cpu first(mostly opengl to opengl es, not so dificult) so lets hope valve port source to arm too
I would like this make a "domino effect" and we see more engines ported to linux like unreal engines and devs make builds for linux

MAC and Windows are by fact the two overrated systems used, Linux doesn't have too much popularity compared to them, since the users of MAC/Windows don't like very much how Linux works, or is.
