Valve has officially added a brand new tab to Steam—one that should open up a lot of doors for the enthusiastic devs or curious hobbyists of the world. The new tab, titled “Software,” contains a variety of mechanics for those interested in making games.

You’ll find game development tools like GameMaker: Studio, ArtRage Studio Pro and others, along with Source Filmmaker and some other random goodies. So get in there and start making stuff! Most of the new apps support things like Steam Cloud, and some even work with Steamworks.
If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at making games or machinima but couldn't figure out where to start, the Steam “Software” tab will likely be a good launching point. GameMaker especially is a free way to learn some development basics.
Are you making any games today?
