Steam gets new features on January 8 |
Friends, fraggers, Steam fans, lend me your ears, as Steam will be getting some pretty sweet updates by January 8. While some of these updates are cosmetic, you'll definitely be liking their content-related alterations as well.
On the cosmetic side, Steam clients will be more customizable in the near future. You'll be able to choose from five different color schemes to suit your needs (easy on the eyes always means less fatigue), two of which we have above: the default Steam skin you've all grown to love, and the "Ice" skin.
In addition to that visual upgrade, users will also be able to arrange the games they play according to their preferences. The "My Games" tab on Steam will allow you to set up a list of favorite games, which will automatically be placed at the top of your list of games.
Their content-related alterations, on the other hand, will lessen the hassles that people have with getting onto the client, and thus allowing them to spread the love of Steam with the use of some freebies which users can give to other people. Valve is now fixing the client to work in the background rather than during startup, relieving people of the wait time before getting onto Steam. Once an update is completed, users will be prompted with a notice and asked if they want to install the update and restart Steam.
Lastly, owners of Day of Defeat: Source will be happy to know that they can get their friends into the game for free, if only for a little while. DoD: Source owners will be getting guest passes which they can give to their buddies. The passes will allow guests to play games for free for a limited time, so it'll be interesting to see how many converts Valve will make once January 8 rolls around.
