If you haven't heard of Star Trek: Infinite Space, it was supposed to be a web-based free to play MMO based on the epic storyline of the Star Trek series. With the help of some key players in the franchise such as screenwriter Lee Sheldon and the much praised Star Trek advisers Michael and Denise Okuda, this project seemed like it was going to be an absolute dream for Star Trek fans. With an expansive world designed by the people who know it best, how could such a compelling idea like Star Trek: Infinite Space not be something worth buying into? However, in a translated statement issued today by the developer, we learn the sad truth of the project who stated.

"Unfortunately, our efforts were not successful [in finding a new developinmg and marketing partner.] So we have decided with a heavy heart to finally abandon the project Star Trek: Infinite Space. The discontinuation is very regrettable."
Very regrettable indeed. Who knows, with any luck maybe we will see this project rise from the ashes at a later date. Until then, we can assuredly put this one in the can.
