Sins of a Solar Empire expansion still on the drawing board - Image 1

There was a seeming certainty when we last read about the announcement of an expansion for Sins of a Solar Empire. Of course, it's time we tempered that enthusiasm with a steadfast update on the status of the said expansion. Unfortunately, IGN reports that most of it still seems to be on the drawing board.

IGN caught up with Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock, and asked him about the reported expansion for SoaSE. Wardell replied, "We are going to make an expansion for Sins, but we don't know when we're going to do it."

As for features Wardell wanted to put in, there were many ideas. For one thing, he wanted to add a starbase, a sort of defensive system, to the game. "We want to get a starbase in there, too. Basically a super-expensive defense structure," he notes. Wardell also wants to add new technologies into the mix to extend the research tree a bit.

All of these seem to be early ideas, which connotes that they're only in the very early phases of planning an expansion for the game. While there's no timeline to the expansion, you can bet that the promise of one makes their growing fanbase hungry for the additional content. In the meantime, there's always patch 1.04 to keep them busy.
