SimCity Still Struggling, EA Adds Servers and Makes Excuses |

The long-awaited reboot of SimCity went live on Tuesday. Well…it came out. It didn’t actually go live, really, because the servers collapsed under the weight of millions of players being forced to play a single player game online. EA has been under fire for their shoddy prep work, but it looks like the company is finally realizing some network improvements are in order.

Maxis made a statement on the subject yesterday:
“What we are doing is deploying more servers over the coming two days which will alleviate many of the ongoing issues. We are also paying close attention to all the bug reports we are receiving from our fans. We’ve already pushed several updates in the last few days. Our live ops team is working 24/7 to resolve issues and ensure that bug fixes roll into the game as quickly as possible.”
The company also noted that tech issues have escalated rather than slowed down, but that everyone at Maxis is focused on getting the game up and running. Oh, and if you’re wondering if EA gives a shit, read this:
“While the ongoing issues are troubling, we can also see that players are really enjoying the game. In a single 24 hour period, there were more than 38 million buildings plopped down, nearly 7 and a half million kilometers of roads laid down, 18+ million fires started and (my favorite fact) over 40 million pipes filled up with poop.”
In other words, despite all the crying and complaining, everyone still bought the game. Nice work!
