| 2. The future of sim racing |

In his latest interview, this time with The Average Gamer, he blithely confessed that he got bored with making flashy games that didn't have enough oomph when it comes to gameplay.
So he said when asked what advice he'd like to give to young aspiring designers:
"I actually joined the industry as a junior artist making environments and then gradually throughout my career I got bored of making games that looked good but played like s***. I wanted to take more of an interactive part of the decision making process of what was actually fun in the game as opposed to what looked good. So I naturally migrated over that way."
But apart from that, he also revealed the features that he's most proud of in Shift 2.
"Overall, I'm most impressed that we basically continued to innovate this space, in a genre that most people feel is quite sterile and dry. Individually, there are things like tuning that I'm most proud of because tuning has been around for years and it is quite dry and boring. It's just moving sliders left and right, isn't it?...
So when we looked at tuning we wanted to make sure we gave the hardcore guys what they wanted but also made it attractive, usable and user friendly in a way that my 14-year-old nephew could use."

So, of course Tudor has an obligation not to rip his own game apart or might even personally feel that Shift 2 is a breath of fresh air, but from what he's said, I wouldn't see anything significantly different between Shift 2 and other racing simulators.
I admit I read through this article rather quickly, so if I missed anything key, I apologize.

The gameplay is crap and it looks too fancy.
The game is good for screenshots but gameplay is bad.
There is too much fancy graphics to make it playable.
When you drive in a game you don't care for ferris wheels, buildings and etc in the background, you care for seeing the corners and the other cars.
Thats the problem with Shift 2. WAY too much eye candy to make it a good driving game.

When you spend 10-15 hours a day driving in the game, you'll start to appreciate those little details the game also offers you. You don't know how many times I've just stopped, stared at the realism that Gran Turismo 5 offers you when they present you cities like London.
I've complained the lackluster of detail GT5 when it comes to certain tracks, you can tell there's a great difference between Madrid and London detail.
As a vivid sim racer-player, I notice a lot of things so complaining about having too much candy in a game is just ridiculous.
