Robert Bowling defends CoD: Elite

Activision is under fire for coming out with Call of Duty: Elite. Robert Bowling, the publisher's Creative Strategist, is now speaking out to defend their latest gaming venture.

He characterized the negative reaction as a misunderstanding. "I was not surprised at all, because it positioned poorly and misunderstood."

"If I thought I had to pay for stats, groups, clans, the ability to change my class on the fly online or on my phone, and all the other features they announced. I'd want it for free too. "Luckily, all that IS free for everyone. But people didn't know that."

Just yesterday, Zombie Studios' lead designer called Activision a bunch of jerks for dishing out Elite to the fans. Activision had actually foreseen this backlash, saying that they knew they have to get Elite right or risk the ire of their fanbase.

no, the "CoD Elite" thing is PART of the upcoming Modern Warfare 3 game.. you can play that game online for free (on PS3) as normal, but the "Elite" bit is optional and subscription-based, meaning those subscribers apparently get a few extra features that standard players will not be able to access..

to me its just Activisions way of attempting to squeeze every last cent they can out of a franchise before fans realise its losing its appeal, being that the last several games have been somewhat disappointing in regards to bringing anything new into it.. same old game, new story, big yawn..

they're obviously backpedaling themselves. They put out a faq where they described some of the paid features, as written above. There's no way to misunderstand what they wrote since it was explicitly explained. Maybe they figured out that gamers are not as stupid as they think.

1st off he didn't defend anything he just made himself an Activision look more conniving,misle ading,up2 no good an sum. we all know it will be free 2 play, the question an or what we are talking about is the the elite subscription.

Mr. Bowling i guess he thinks he's talking to a 7year old, so is that how companies who are trying to make more money that we gamers help build think of us. see how a small community that dont understand monopolizing means an or to milk you out your money.

gimmick's is the best way 4 any company 2 sell there product good or bad. n all it comes down to we pay 65$ for a game thats not a full game, if u add all the money up 65$ video game dlc 15$ a piece elite lets say thats 10$ a month 4now. ok DLC 3 or 4 map packs in 1 year, 65$ VIDEOGAME+DLC 3 MAP PACKS+ ELITE-SUB 10$ A MONTH = 230$ know 20$ A MONTH IF THE ELITE-SUB WAS 20$=425$ now thats tooo much money for 1 game an at that price thats a full game wtmegaman.

iv said it what if it becomes a trend 4 companies u got 3or 4 games with subscriptions on the consoles how much would u game

Not surprising that they announced a call of duty paid subscription, but I would think they would try to be as quiet as possible about it instead of making a full-blown trailer of it to try to make it look "cool".
