Following the rather shaky start for the free FPS, Quake Live, id Software is now ready to give the browser shooter some major updates. Marty Stratton of id posts details of the update on the Quake Live Forum, where he confirms new additions coming to the game.
Stratton mentioned a lot of changes, but here's the gist of what he posted:
- Re-working of the Practice section
- Changed the start of a Practice Match to be nearly identical to a private server/match
- Additional written tutorials and training arenas
- Mid-match balancing
- New maps
- Addition of private matches
- A new skill matching system
- Competition Feature set: allows time-outs, locking teams, and other admin rights
- Fixing Punkbuster's player-kicking
- Mac/Linux support
- Additional server locations
- Other third-party plans
- Match broadcasting, spectator features
- Some level of integrated and more easily accessible demo support/functionality
- Community-made maps
- "Social Network" functionality
