Ten years ago, the gaming community was introduced to a little title known as Battlefield 1942. While at face value, this EA favorite looked like a simple rehash of the Medal of Honor series, it took things one step further than simply placing a game title within the World War II era. To those that played 1942, you'll know there was an added layer of tactical gameplay that the genre had never seen before. The best part is, if you want to know what I'm talking about, this historical game can now be yours for free!

Thanks to a partnership with the game download service known as Origin, Battlefield 1942 can now be yours entirely free. With all of the weapons, multiplayer madness and command point control, this is a game that any person interested in the history of the industry should at least try once. Sure the decade old graphics aren't going to be there to impress you these days, but if you have an old computer or you're just looking for something new and great to play, this is a game you can't go wrong with. Believe it or not, at it's core you'll find that its still quite similar to what you now see today in the series third iteration.
Speaking of which, EA also took the time to announce some hallmarks for that game as well. As of right now Battlefield's $50 premium offering has more than 2 million subscribers generating over $100 million in digital revenue. Additionally, the game's online play boats 5.2 million active users a month as well. All of that being said, it makes sense to conclude that Battlefield 3 is indeed the company's fastest selling title in history; a designation really put into perspective when you consider how many games EA makes each year. When all is said and done, QJ wishes a happy ten years to Battlefield in the hope that we will eventually celebrate ten more!
