Pissed at SimCity? EA's Offering You a Free PC Game so Chill Out |
Listed in: News Tags: EA, Electronic Arts, simcity
Okay, so SimCity’s release hasn’t exactly been smooth, but chill out! EA is offering you a free game for your troubles.

A blog post by Maxis general manager Lucy Bradshaw on the Electronic Arts website provided an update on the server issues that SimCity experienced at launch. Apparently more people logged in to play the game than they expected, and they became overwhelmed. EA said that they’ve increased server capacity by 120 percent and that things seem to be looking up.
With that out of the way, EA is offering a free PC download for SimCity customers. Details on how to redeem the game will be sent via email on March 18th. Here’s the actual portion of the blog post that discusses the free game offer and why they are making the move:
Something Special for Your Trouble
“The good news is that SimCity is a solid hit in all major markets. The consensus among critics and players is that this is fundamentally a great game. But this SimCity is made to be played online, and if you can’t get a stable connection, you’re NOT having a good experience. So we’re not going to rest until we’ve fixed the remaining server issues.
And to get us back in your good graces, we’re going to offer you a free PC download game from the EA portfolio. On March 18, SimCity players who have activated their game will receive an email telling them how to redeem their free game.
I know that’s a little contrived – kind of like buying a present for a friend after you did something crummy. But we feel bad about what happened. We’re hoping you won’t stay mad and that we’ll be friends again when SimCity is running at 100 percent.
SimCity is a GREAT game and the people who made it are incredibly proud. Hang in there – we’ll be providing more updates throughout the weekend.”

I want my game, the game I paid for. And if they're not going to give me that, I want my money back.
Am I supposed to be bought so cheap, that the only recourse I get after they stole my money on ScamCity is yet another game except, LET ME GUESS, I have to keep the Origin Server just to play their game?
The only way to stop this bleeding is offer refunds, or ship a hard copy game to customers so they can play it on their own.
This Issues with EA go way beyond this game, this one is just the final straw.
Not only should people not except this "trinket", it is time that we as a gaming community put this company out of business through a nationwide, worldwide boycott.
This will send a warning call to other companies, and will be a wake up call to the industry. EAs demise should be quick and brutal.
To coin an old Farming Term: One Swift Kill Awakens the Herd.

Seems like a bigger win for EA.
