Ian Fraizer has had a history with piracy. Not the kind that gets you a bit of a notification from asshat's like the RIAA, but he has been outspoken about it in the past. One of the first title's he ever worked on Titan Quest was pirated extensively and almost killed the company that made it. Like Batman or a kid who was bullied in his formative years, Fraizer has an undying vengeance against Piracy and his thirst for it may never be quenched...so here's what he had to say recently about PC-exclusives when he sat down with the guys over at Inc Gamers.

The lead designer of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, said that having a PC-exclusive would be near impossible today. The domination of the console market isn't solely the problem with PC titles just having a PC releases, but ultimately the biggest showstopper is piracy. He said about Reckoning, that " a game this big is very expensive" and that with "piracy being as rampant as it is, [PC gaming] is really hard to make money from." Fraizer then talked about Titan Quest was a PC exclusive and it was pirated so much that it nearly caused Iron Lore to go out of business...even though the game still boasts a surprisingly active community but did have a huge pre-release piracy due with a lot of people (falsely) claiming the game was buggy and unfinished and struck a blow for sales.

I am aware of the slightly misleading title but I think what Fraizer is trying to say is that piracy is bad, I work for EA and that you should buy our game coz it's probably gonna be good.  But I don't think Fraizer hates piracy all that much and is just trying to save face at the moment as he's hopeful for the future of PC exclusives saying the only way to be profitable on PC is if  "you're an MMO."  I mean, to be honest there are a lot of PC exclusive titles out there that do pretty well, just on different payment platforms. Some do beta-pricing, some do Freemium pricing, others just go the traditional route, but ultimately I think the whole market is changing and Fraizer is not the goddamn Batman.

True but if you sell them at afford like 19.99 or 29.99 then it wont be piracy. Since you sell more than people can afford and you got more profit is unfair to people.

Titan Quest, even the retail copy at the latest version on long play times I still get the game to crash and it corrupts all save files ruining countless hours of playtime....

I was glad I pirated, it was buggy as hell, and my friend bought and found out even with the latest patch the same bug occurs... To bad it would've been a purchase I would have gladly made.

So Ian, screw you, the game still has game breaking bugs and you expect to pay for it, don't blame piracy when the game was terribly buggy at release date and expect sales...

lolll, piracy killed the pc scene??? don't you think it would be more accurate to say that 60-70$ games did it by themselves?? when you see that games like CoD and BF make earnings of over a billion $$$ within their first weeks of release, its obvious its overpriced, though i guess we'd still have to see the profit they make out of it....though if its 1 billion in profit its pure greed of them to sell it that much

I disagree. Consoles kill pc gaming. Even if people pirate the games, majority of them cant even run the triple A titles cuz so many ppl have shit computers.

I have a great computer and from my experience i notice alot of ppl just cant afford to spend more than 500 bux on a decent computer, nevermind building cuz alot of ppl also arent confident enough to build

Go on league pf legends, pure kids with shit computers struggling to load the map. Look at sc2, lots of ppl load extremely slow and end up slowing the game down.

The thing about PC gaming is that every individual will have a different gaming experience based on their individual systems performance.

Developers consistently develop to the current level of technology, so only the militant techies will have a positive experience. The rest of humanity that is happy with its 2 year old pc are left with issues like laggy controls and embarrassingly low frame rates.

Consoles on the other hand are cheaper than all but the crappiest of PCs, only need replaced every 7-10 years, and the gaming experience is universal for all players since there is only one tec spec to design for. The game may be awesome, or the game may be shitty, but at least its the same game for everyone.

yeah but unfortunatly where do you draw the line, what hardware do ou see as "acceptable" should all games run perfect on high setting on 1GB ram, or is that too much 512??? still to much im sure theres many people still out there with old laptops with 256MBB ram, so is there some system that will show devs when nobdy at all is using below a certain specs so they can finnal make games that use 1GB of ram, theres a certain level of support i wouldnt expect devs to still be making new games for the PS2, im sure there is still people using PS2's but if you cant afford to upgrade to maybe not the latest hardware but atleast 2-4 years at latest i dont think you should be running pc games, let alone complaining that skyrim dont work on high settings, MOST games releases in 2011, would work on PC's released 2-5 years ago aslong as long as it wernt designed to be a "basic" pc in the first place, and the good thing about PC's is you upgrade at your leasure, new hard drive here new ram there, and you can always stay up there with the best of them, its the diffrence between android and ios, if you arnt to techy stick to the cotton wool wrapped ios(consoles in this case)

Yeah, PC only exclusives like WoW and The Old Republic are total failures.

Ian Fraizer should remove his head from his butt. He might able to think more clearly.

Neither are killing the PC. What IS killing the PC gaming platform is bad DRM, plain and simple. Look through any Gamestop or Blockbuster and you'll notice one lacking section: the PC. You know why? Because Gamestop isn't allowed to remove the DRM that makes renting/selling many PC games impossible. And the fact that one has to either gamble upwards of $60 to see if the game is worth their money with no hope of recovering even a CENT of that certainly doesn't help.
