Piracy not console domination killed the PC exclusive says Lead EA Designer |

Ian Fraizer has had a history with piracy. Not the kind that gets you a bit of a notification from asshat's like the RIAA, but he has been outspoken about it in the past. One of the first title's he ever worked on Titan Quest was pirated extensively and almost killed the company that made it. Like Batman or a kid who was bullied in his formative years, Fraizer has an undying vengeance against Piracy and his thirst for it may never be quenched...so here's what he had to say recently about PC-exclusives when he sat down with the guys over at Inc Gamers.
The lead designer of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, said that having a PC-exclusive would be near impossible today. The domination of the console market isn't solely the problem with PC titles just having a PC releases, but ultimately the biggest showstopper is piracy. He said about Reckoning, that " a game this big is very expensive" and that with "piracy being as rampant as it is, [PC gaming] is really hard to make money from." Fraizer then talked about Titan Quest was a PC exclusive and it was pirated so much that it nearly caused Iron Lore to go out of business...even though the game still boasts a surprisingly active community but did have a huge pre-release piracy due with a lot of people (falsely) claiming the game was buggy and unfinished and struck a blow for sales.
I am aware of the slightly misleading title but I think what Fraizer is trying to say is that piracy is bad, I work for EA and that you should buy our game coz it's probably gonna be good. But I don't think Fraizer hates piracy all that much and is just trying to save face at the moment as he's hopeful for the future of PC exclusives saying the only way to be profitable on PC is if "you're an MMO." I mean, to be honest there are a lot of PC exclusive titles out there that do pretty well, just on different payment platforms. Some do beta-pricing, some do Freemium pricing, others just go the traditional route, but ultimately I think the whole market is changing and Fraizer is not the goddamn Batman.

I was glad I pirated, it was buggy as hell, and my friend bought and found out even with the latest patch the same bug occurs... To bad it would've been a purchase I would have gladly made.
So Ian, screw you, the game still has game breaking bugs and you expect to pay for it, don't blame piracy when the game was terribly buggy at release date and expect sales...

I have a great computer and from my experience i notice alot of ppl just cant afford to spend more than 500 bux on a decent computer, nevermind building cuz alot of ppl also arent confident enough to build
Go on league pf legends, pure kids with shit computers struggling to load the map. Look at sc2, lots of ppl load extremely slow and end up slowing the game down.

Developers consistently develop to the current level of technology, so only the militant techies will have a positive experience. The rest of humanity that is happy with its 2 year old pc are left with issues like laggy controls and embarrassingly low frame rates.
Consoles on the other hand are cheaper than all but the crappiest of PCs, only need replaced every 7-10 years, and the gaming experience is universal for all players since there is only one tec spec to design for. The game may be awesome, or the game may be shitty, but at least its the same game for everyone.

Ian Fraizer should remove his head from his butt. He might able to think more clearly.
