Penny Arcade and Steam Want In With The In Crowd |
Listed in: News Tags: indie go go, kickstarter, Penny Arcade, Steam, valve
Widely used by independent filmakers, crowdfunding is a means for artisits to raise capital for their projects such as films, documentaries and even books. Popular crowdfunding websites like Kickstarter and Indie Go Go afford artists and in this case video game developers the opportunity to appeal to fellow members of the public for funding in return for perks and other negotiated means.

For Steam, which is an online gaming store for Valve, its using Greenlight, a kickstarter-like campaign to raise money from Johnny Q Public in exchange for regular Joes like you and I having a say and influence in the video games it develops.
Unlike Steam, Penny Arcade is offering contributers the ability to remove ad content from their website which was founded on comic strips for gamers back in the winter of 1998. Apparently the more you donate the more ads one will be able to remove. As of now, Penny Arcade has raised more than $200,000.

Where does "operation" come from? It's simply "Greenlight".
Also I don't see how this is a "kickstarter campaign to raise money".
Users can just voice that they want a certain game on steam. This is no kickstarter, no campaign and money doesn't get raised either.
