PAX East 2011 in Boston was such a huge success that the event organizers just can't wait for the next one in 2012. They're so excited, in fact, that they've already set a date for it.

Penny Arcade's Robert Khoo divulged the statistics, via Big Download, that this year's Boston event pulled in a whopping 69,500 attendees. That's a huge jump from the 52,290 folks that trooped to last year's event.

"The venue we have this year is massive - it's legitimately 2-3x larger than last year's venue, so the amount of breathing room was fantastic. I didn't hear a single complaint about overcrowding. I never thought I would see the day."

Because of this success, they can't wait to bring gamers the next iteration of the annual event. For the PAX Prime event later this year, it will be happening on August 26th - 28th. Meanwhile, the next PAX East event for 2012 will be commencing on April 7th - 9th next year.

If you were hoping for an overseas event, however, this is what Khoo had to say: "Haha, no sorry - there really isn't anything to say! We look at all sorts of places to see if it's right for PAX. I think the UK rumors got picked up because it's just so... Out there."

Congratulations to the PAX team for pulling off a successful event!

Just wondering; do you mean to have PAX East 2012 on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday? Or were you meaning Friday, Saturday, and Sunday which would be April 6-8?

Why Have it the same weekend as Anime Boston? Both conventions will lose because I know most people go to both but will not probably go if they are the same freakin weekend!

Could you do it in Ohio this year? K thx. Cleveland is an awesome city, and I, for one, would LOVE to have PAX centered in the Giant Convention center downtown that we have. If the IX center isn't large enough, I don't know a place that is!
