The pirates have struck the X-mark again, claiming illegal booty with digitally ripped software. After hearing Rock Band: Unplugged's leaking into the Internet a month ahead of retail release, this bit of news brings another damper to the fight against piracy.

It's been reported that The Sims 3 has now also found its way to torrent sites online, some two weeks ahead of its scheduled release (June 2). With the game going gold just a few days ago, it doesn't take much imagination how a copy could have possibly been leaked.

To make matters worse, unlike other more recent DRM-ified PC games from Electronic Arts, The Sims 3 doesn't require online activation to play - a measure used by EA to combat piracy, but was then received with ill-favor and backlash from gamers.

I doubt my PC will run it. 2.80 GHz P4/HT with 2 GB RAM and a 128 MB GeForce 5200 FX video card. And the Mac version is only for Intel, so it wont work on my PPC Mac.

Thats a shame... I mean, I hate to see EA getting screwed for doing the right thing and dropping their DRM.

That being said, I had a horrible experience with Spore's DRM that I won't go into, so it's a mixed blessing. Part of me is happy that they came to their senses, the other is a little happy that the pirates are evening the score.
