Notch challenges Bethesda to Quake 3 match to decide Scrolls' fate |

Markus "Notch" Persson, the brains behind the indie darling Minecraft, is currently working on a new strategy game called Scrolls. One problem, though: Zenimax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, is crying foul over the name. Zenimax claims it's too close to the name of the upcoming The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and thus constitutes a trademark infringement.
Notch says on a Tumblr post that the name issue is the only negative thing surrounding Scrolls right now, but he already knows how to clear it all up without having to go to court.
"The only negative thing going on at this moment is the Scrolls trademark lawsuit nonsense, and I think I came up with the perfect solution," he posted. "I challenge Bethesda to a game of Quake 3. Three of our best warriors against three of your best warriors. We select one level, you select the other, we randomize the order. 20 minute matches, highest total frag count per team across both levels wins.
"If we win, you drop the lawsuit. If you win, we will change the name of Scrolls to something you're fine with. Regardless of the outcome, we could still have a small text somewhere saying our game is not related to your game series in any way, if you wish." Notch then added, "I am serious, by the way."
Notch is directly addressing Bethesda although Zenimax is the one who sent out the lawsuit, but even if he challenges Zenimax it's hard to expect that either one will take the challenge seriously. Still, it would have been an awesome match to see.
Bethesda has recently stated that the Elder Scrolls franchise is theirs and theirs alone.
