NFS Shift 2 devs can't crack game themselves

At the NFS Shift 2 press launch last night, it wasn't only the game's graphics or gameplay that grabbed the attention of the attendees, but more importantly it's security as well.

Apparently, Slightly Mad studios president Stephen Viljoen was making a presentation of the game when he couldn't get to use the ultra luxury race cars in the game, like the Lamborghini Gallardo. Instead, he had to make do showing off a bright Red Golf GI, which unfortunately could not quite deliver the speed they need.

Dumbfounded, the dev called on the rest of his team via his cellphone. However, as it turned out, none of them could crack the code too, this despite the fact that Viljoen had the dev's very own cheat codes in his hands.

So what copy were they using that they could not get a crack at it? As it turned out, it was your old run of the mill retail copy. And yet, even the company's president could not bypass it.

While that flub could have meant embarrassment of epic proportions, what it did in the end was to prove just how tightly locked Shift 2's security is against hackers. Good job, dev team!

Ifit was the retail copy then it would be logical not to have any "devmode" code in it. Now if it was a dev build of the game it would be embarrasing.

Perhaps the codes he had were for a different build after all.

If they had simple DRM like(exactly like) a serial number and no more for single player or a login for multi player, and I could resell my DVD after I was done with it, I would happily buy the game, but they want to try and take away my right to resell, then fuck them, not only will I not buy the game. I will play the pirated version for free instead.
